Champaign Central welders provide spine for Allerton’s lighted archway
Thanks to Champaign Central High School's advanced welding class, Allerton's Kirby Winter Wellness Walk has a new and improved lighted archway! These talented students planned and completed this project in just three weeks. We are grateful for their help, and even more excited to work with local schools to get more students out and into Allerton. Many students have never visited, but now this class has a stake in the Park. “It feels nice,” says Isaac Garcia, student at Central. “It’s just … [Read more...] about Champaign Central welders provide spine for Allerton’s lighted archway

Elmer’s Corner
The small grassland located at the south entrance off Allerton Road has long been known as “Elmer’s Corner”, named after an Allerton-era staff member Elmer Priebe. The earliest land cover records for Piatt County indicate that most of what is now Allerton Park was forested at the time of settlement. One exception to this is “Elmer’s Corner”. We believe the area east of Old Levee Road and north of Allerton Road was originally prairie and is an excellent site for ecological restoration work. … [Read more...] about Elmer’s Corner

Fundraising initiative aims to make Allerton accessible to all
Allerton Park and Retreat Center has announced a new initiative focused on making the Park more accessible, thanks to a lead gift from Sandy Haas of Champaign. Haas’ gift, and future donations to the Accessible Allerton fund, will allow more people to experience the history, nature, and art found at the estate, which was built over 100 years ago by Robert Allerton. “Since Allerton used to be a private residence, not everything here is accessible,” explained Director Derek Peterson. … [Read more...] about Fundraising initiative aims to make Allerton accessible to all
