Fall is a good time to tackle invasives
MONTICELLO — As fall begins to give way to winter, this is a good time to spot invasive species in yards and forests and try to limit their harm to native plants and wildlife. For homeowners in Central Illinois, bush honeysuckle — identified by its bright red berries — is a common invasive. The Farms: One year in and going strong!
MONTICELLO — As The Farms: An Allerton Folk School observed its first anniversary in September (of 2024), organizers spent time reflecting on the first year of operation. And they liked what they saw. Rathjes honored for generous donations
A group gathered in the Mansion on Sept. 12 to view the fruits of the recent Mansion Solarium remodel and to honor Debra and David Rathje, whose generous gifts have made several Mansion and other Park upgrades possible. The Solarium project included installation of a new bar, new furniture, rug and window coverings. RDC resident holds altar workshop
Participants at an Altar Workshop on Aug. 7 spent time both indoors and out as Artist-in-Residence Lemareye Jones walked them through the process of setting up home altars, which can be dedicated to a variety of things. Hats off to our Camp Staff!
Hats off to our hard-working Summer Camp Staff. Despite some hot days and occasional rainouts, these dedicated workers led youth through weeks on weather, science, fort-building, pollinators, and even their very own Olympic competitions!
