I grew up coming to Allerton year round. I have memories of being a child and walking to the “ends of the earth” where there was a giant sunken garden. As time went by my family frequented and in middle school we would come and be set free to explore the woods and play the most excellent games of hide and seek. In high school and college I would come for hikes and trail running by myself or with friends.
When I met my best friend and decided to ask if she would marry me, the Gazeboo overlooking the Foo-Dogs was where it happened. We were married on those same steps with a lovely ceremony of fourteen people. As were we beginning the wedding, a kind passer-by walked up and asked “When is the wedding if this is the rehearsal?”. “This is the wedding” we responded and her face turned red! We celebrated my parents 50th anniversary with suit and tie in the main Mansion and it was an excellent evenings.
Allerton has woven its way through my life in many, many ways and I am sure that we will frequent and support its beautiful prairies, architecture, and events.
