Holiday Glow FAQs

Where is Holiday GLOW located?
GLOW is about a mile long walk through the formal gardens and woodlands at Allerton Park and Retreat Center – 515 Old Timber Road, Monticello, IL 61856.

How much is it?
$10/vehicle, payable upon arrival. (Opening Weekend – Dec. 5 & 6 – is $10/person)

Where do I park?
Follow signs to the Main Parking Lot. On busier nights, we will have parking attendants directing traffic. Once the Main Lot is full, our attendants will direct you to additional lots, which could require a short (less than ¼ mile) walk. There will be golf cart shuttles running from the 4-H Parking Lot.

Please be aware there may be a wait to enter the Park. Thank you in advance for your patience as our staff/volunteers work as quickly as possible to get everyone inside. Crank that holiday music and relax!

What are Carpool Lots?
To help us save parking space – and save you money! – consider using one of our carpool lots – Buck Schroth Trailhead, Music Barn, or North Farmstead  – and take one vehicle per group into the Park.)

Is there food and drink available?
Find the food truck and bar schedule here. (Please note that food trucks/bar may adjust their schedule or cancel at any time, but we will keep this page updated as we are made aware of changes.)

What should I wear?
Please dress for the weather, including boots! Portions of the walk can be snowy, muddy, icy, etc.

What if it rains, snows, or is very cold?
GLOW will typically continue despite the weather, but check our Facebook page for cancellations. Please use your best judgment when determining if it is safe to venture out.

Is the path accessible?
The yellow sections of the map are hard surfaces, but due to snow coverage may not be fully accessible.

Will the Mansion be open?
The Mansion will be open to the public during the Winter Market on Dec. 19-20 and the Winter Solstice Bonfire on Dec. 21.

Is there another place to warm up inside?
Stop by the Greenhouse, which also has restrooms and a drinking fountain.

Are dogs allowed?
Yes, leashed dogs are always welcome outside at Allerton!

Can you drive through instead of walk?
While you can see some lights from your vehicle on Old Timber Road, most are not visible.

Are there other events going on during Glow?
Sometimes! Find our event calendar here.
