We are always accepting applications from individuals who value hands-on experiences and are interested in leading or facilitating a course at Allerton.
Courses should focus on a variety of subjects
that fall within five main categories:
Art
Includes all disciplines from visual art, ceramics, and printmaking to woodworking, filmmaking, fiber art, and music. Space needs, supplies, and tools should be taken into consideration.
Outdoor Education
Examples include hiking, backpacking, tent camping, bird and tree identification, gardening, and more!
Science
Includes, but is not limited to, climatology, biology, etomology, and engineering.
Storytelling
Discussion and education in local and regional history, as well as making connections between the Allerton family and historical events. These classes may combine another Farms category (e.g., art or nature) for students to fully immerse themselves in a topic.
Wellness
Activities that promote positive physical and mental health
The examples listed above are merely suggestions, and all ideas are welcome! If you would like to apply to be an instructor, but are unsure of where your subject falls or have other questions, please email allertoninfo@illinois.edu.
In addition to the instructor’s preferred method of compensation, Allerton will provide the following for each class/instructor:
- Space for the class or workshop
- Marketing and advertising
- Registration
- Reimbursement of materials purchased for class
*Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. If your application isn’t chosen for the current or your preferred session, you may be contacted for future sessions.
The instructor application deadline for the Fall and Winter Sessions is June 15, 2026.
