The Farms: Grand Ikebana Demonstration

Experience Level: Beginner

Experience a live demonstration tracing the visual history of Ikenobo at a Grand Ikebana Demonstration on Sunday, May 17 from 12-1 p.m. in the Mansion Library.

Attendees will witness the creation of diverse styles, from the spiritual origins of Tatehana (standing flowers) to the intricate Classical Rikka, and finally the most contemporary evolution: Rikka Shimputai, known for its modern brightness and individual expression.

“To see the Ikenobo styles evolve from the ancient Tatehana to the contemporary Shimputai is to see the history of Japan itself. Hosting these workshops and the demonstration during Picnic with the Peonies allows us to honor the local season while practicing an art form that has been evolving over five centuries.” -Jeanne Holy, Senior Professor of The Illinois Prairie Ikenobo Chapter

$15/person. Register here. Registration will close May 16 or when capacity is reached. All sales are final.
