Erskine will blend history, storytelling, and his personal experience as a veterinarian in an insular Amish community in central Pennsylvania. He will then discuss his latest suspense novel, The Coigreach, which takes place at Allerton. The novel follows a young traveler working as a farmhand, who discovers a nearby estate with unsettling sculptures and old gardens, where something ancient and watchful begins to stir. He will share readings of select passages, as well as a Q&A and book-signing.

About the Author:

Author and veterinarian, RJ Erskine, served on the faculty at Michigan State University for 30 years. In his suspense novels, he relies on personal experiences while practicing among an Amish community in Pennsylvania, and how crises brought about by natural forces and human depravity impacted their lives. His fifth book, Stories from Michigan’s Changing Rural Landscape, is a collection of essays and photographs based on interviews with small business owners and farmers who strive to make a living in an age of consolidation. The author lives on a small slice of pastoral Michigan with his wife and misbehaving cats
