Summer Day Camp

presented by Busey Bank

Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12. Individual weeks of Camp can fill quickly. Registration links will be available here.

Allerton Summer Day Camps get your child outside all day to discover art, nature, and science through hands-on exploration. Campers are split into two age groups: 5- to 7-year-olds (Acorns) and 8- to 11-year-olds (Adventurers), and will spend their time doing whole-group and small-group, structured and camper-led exploration activities in the great outdoors.

Camp will provide your child with opportunities to learn new skills, exercise responsibility, and understand their place in the natural world — in addition to playing games, making new friends, and having a whole lot of fun!

(Adventurers also have the opportunity to go to the Monticello Family Aquatic Center twice a week. Read more in the FAQ section below.)

Each week of camp features a different theme and requires registration for each week.  View each week’s description here.

Camp is held June 9 to August 8, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(No camp the week of June 30-July 4.)

Early Arrivers (7-8 a.m.) and After Care (3-5:30 p.m.) extended-day options are available for an additional fee.

Camp Registration: $200/week
Lunch: $25/week
Extended-day: $15/AM and $35/PM
(includes an afternoon snack)

There are a limited number of partial Day Camp scholarships available. Complete a scholarship application here.

Two snacks, a camp T-shirt, and all necessary materials and supplies will be included in your registration. Lunch can be purchased for the week ($25) or a lunch can be sent from home.  Campers should bring their own water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and a change of clothes/shoes.

Registration Options

Register online (RECOMMENDED): Links to each week of camp will be available on the “Youth” section of our event calendar on March 12 at 9 a.m. You will be able to fill out the registration form and pay for as many weeks as you need online.  (If a week of camp is sold out, you will automatically be asked if you would like to be put on the wait list.)  If you need assistance, please contact Sarah at sputman2@illinois.edu.

Register in person: Complete this form and bring it to the Gift Shop of the McCraw Family Visitor Center (Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Be sure to check camp availability before submitting registration in person. Check individual camp availability on the “Youth” section of our event calendar.

If your camper will need disability-related accommodations to participate, please contact Sarah at sputman2@illinois.edu.

Frequently-Asked Questions

Where is camp held?

Campers spend their days outside, utilizing a tent near the Meadow. In the event of inclement weather, camps will utilize the Auditorium of the Greenhouse building, and Studio building across the street as needed. Your registration materials will include detailed information about where to drop your camper off and pick them up.

Do you offer extended day?

Yes! We offer Early Arrivers from 7 to 8 a.m. and After Care from 3 to 5:30 p.m. to extend the camp day. Times are listed on the registration form and online. Participants must be pre-registered for Extended Day.

Participants may be dropped off 5 minutes before the start of camp and will be allowed a 5-minute grace period after the end of camp. If you need care earlier or later than those times, you are required to sign your child up for Extended Day. Regularly late pick-ups will be charged the After Care fee for that week.

When is the deadline to register?

Camp registration continues all summer if space remains available. Individual weeks of camp can fill quickly. Registration closes for individual weeks of camp 14 days prior to that camp.

Can I reserve a spot in camp?

Yes! You can hold your child’s spot in camp with a non-refundable deposit of $50 per child per week. Your spot will be held until payment is due 10 business days prior to the start of camp. If payment is not made 10 business days prior, the spot will be opened up to the waitlist without refund of deposit. When payment is made, your deposit fee will be applied toward total camp fees.

What is your cancellation policy?

Participants may cancel their registration and withdraw from camp up to 10 business days from the start of camp and receive a full refund of the registration fee minus an administrative fee. If a participant cancels fewer than 10 business days prior to the start of camp, they will be charged the full fee for that camp.

My child turns 5 or 8 during the summer; can I still register?

Your child must be 5 years old before the start of their first day of camp for Acorns and 8 years old for Adventurers.

Does Allerton offer transportation to and from camp?

Piattran provides a transportation alternative for camp parents getting kiddos to and from camp! They also provide Adventurers (8- to 11-year-olds) rides to and from the pool twice weekly.

To set up rides for your camper, you should submit a current Rider Intake Form directly to the Piattran office at least 2 weeks prior to camp. To arrange payment of rider fees, please contact Piattran directly.  Due to administrative processes, camp staff will not be collecting rider fees or intake forms for Piattran. If Piattran does not have your camper’s form and payment one week prior to the start of camp, your camper will not be able to ride Piattran, including Adventurers going to the pool. If you have any questions regarding this service, please contact Piattran directly.

Piattran:

Adventurers-Only Information (8-11-year-olds)

My camper is attending Adventurers Camp.  How do I set up rides to the pool with Piattran?

Piattran provides Adventurers rides to the pool twice per week. Campers will need a current Rider Intake Form on file and payment paid directly to Piattran. If Piattran does not have this form and payment one week before the first trip to the pool, your camper will not be able to ride Piattran. See above for Piattran contact information.

Do we need to purchase a pool pass?

Campers will not need to purchase a pool pass! Pool fees are included in the camp registration fee.

Youth Programs

Our youth programs strive to connect children with the beauty and art of nature, beginning a lifelong relationship and fostering appreciation for our natural world. Allerton offers a variety of outdoor experiences and educational opportunities, whether it’s running among the Fu Dogs, reflecting with a nature journal, or just throwing sticks in the Sangamon River.

Summer Day Camps

Campers, split into two age groups: 5 to 7-year-olds (Acorns) and 8 to 11-year-olds (Adventurers), will spend their time doing whole-group and small-group, structured and camper-led exploration activities in the great outdoors.

Concert Series FAQ

Where are the Concerts held?

All Concerts will be held on the Gatehouse Lawn at Allerton Park and Retreat Center — 515 Old Timber Road, Monticello, IL 61856.

Do I need tickets?

Unless otherwise stated on the individual event, no ticket is required. A $5/person or $10/family fee will be collected at the gate.

Where do I park?

Staff and volunteers will direct you to a parking area. After the Main Parking lot is full, auxiliary lots will be used. Some will require about a quarter-mile walk — sometimes on uneven surfaces — so please wear comfortable shoes. The best pedestrian route from those lots is through the Formal Gardens. If you need directions, please ask!

Shuttle service will be available from the auxiliary lots to the Gatehouse Lawn.

If you need to park close or be dropped off due to accessibility, please let the attendants know.

Is there assigned seating?

Seating is first come, first served — bring your own chairs and blankets! Please leave any view-blocking umbrellas or chairs with built-in head coverings at home.

What if it rains or storms?

Follow our Facebook page for announcements. We will do everything we can to ensure the show goes on. However, if equipment cannot be safely set-up and operated, the concert will be cancelled. In case of poor weather during a show, we will direct you to shelter. Your best bet may be heading back to your vehicle!

Can I bring in my own food and drinks?

You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. There will be a bar (cash/credit) and food vendors on-site for each concert. Visit each Concert’s event page to learn more about food options.

Do I need to bring cash?

There is no ATM on-site. Credit cards can be used to purchase drinks. Although many food vendors will accept credit cards, we cannot guarantee that all will.

Will there be other items for sale?

Select Concerts will have artists and vendors on-site. Visit each Concert’s event page to learn more.

I have something to sell or an activity to offer. Can I be a vendor?

Thanks for your interest! Email Olivia at owarren@illinois.edu.

Can I bring my children?

Please do! All ages are welcome.

Can I bring my four-legged friend?

Pets are allowed, but must be on a leash. Please pick up all droppings immediately and dispose of them properly.

How are the mosquitos?

We spray the lawns and the surrounding wood edges with an organic blend before concerts. It effectively knocks the mosquitoes down. Of course we recommend that you come prepared with bug deterrent just in case you are bothered.
