Because of the historic nature of the property, not all areas of Allerton are accessible.
The Park has one wheelchair available on a first come, first serve basis, as well as accessibility power chairs which can be reserved at least 48 hours in advance. To ensure the power chair you would like to borrow is available, please request it as far in advance as possible. Click here for more information, and to review safety usage and policies.
Currently there are three power chairs available:
- Afikim Scooter Single Seat
This single-seat scooter is designed with comfort and safety in mind, including a shock-absorbing front bumper, orthopedic rotatable seat, high backrest and LED headlights. - Afikim Scooter Wide Seat
This wide seat scooter is designed with comfort and safety in mind, including a shock-absorbing front bumper, orthopedic rotatable seat, high backrest and LED headlights. It is designed for two people, or you and your pet! - Zoom Uphill Power Chair and helmet
The Zoom Uphill is an all-terrain power chair meant for recreational use. It has a permanent symmetrical 4-wheel drive designed for use in rough terrain, including uses on some trails. The patented frame design ensures that all four wheels stay in contact with the ground regardless of the type of surface. This provides continuous 4-wheel drive performance under all conditions.
The power chairs were made possible through the generous donation of Brenda and Wayland Eheart and the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois.
Our Accessible Allerton fund will allow more people to experience the history, nature, and art found at the estate, which was built over 100 years ago by Robert Allerton.
