Grounds Extra Help

Location: Allerton Park & Retreat Center, 515 Old Timber Road, Monticello, IL 61856

Position Description: Main duties include general landscape maintenance (60%) including but not limited to: weeding, mulching, watering, planting, raking, digging, pruning, trimming, edging, string trimming and other duties as assigned (10%). Some road work and other project-based work as assigned (10%). Park grounds staff will also help with event setup and cleanup (10%) as well as general park maintenance tasks such as cleaning park bathrooms and emptying garbage cans around the grounds (10%).

Qualifications: Applicants working towards a degree in horticulture/landscape architecture or related field preferred but not required. Experience using power equipment (string trimmer, mower, tractor, etc.) and experience in outdoor/park district/conservation/landscaping work preferred but not required. Position will require working outdoors under potentially adverse conditions. Successful applicants must have good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team situation.

Requirements:
Successful applicants will be:

· Able to work ~37.5 hrs./week (Monday-Friday), with some nights/weekends/holidays as scheduled

· Able to responsibly operate power equipment such as string trimmer, mower, tractor, ATV, etc.

· Have a valid driver license and provide own transportation to work site

· Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced work environment

· Able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds and perform rigorous physical activity

· Dependable and have a desire to work outdoors

· Able to work in hot, wet, humid and buggy conditions

Salary: $15/hour

Dates: Seasonal
