The Farms: An Allerton Folk School

Upcoming Courses

As the first folk school in Illinois, The Farms offers classes, workshops, retreats, and gatherings focusing on art, outdoor education, science, storytelling, and wellness.

All courses value hands-on, experiential teaching and learning, and are facilitated by and for the members of the community.

Vision

Creating a community through experiential learning, storytelling, and accessible creative expressions in a restorative environment.

Goals

  1. Create opportunities for learning outside traditional constructs
  2. Develop community connections
  3. Provide a restorative, inspirational setting for creativity and storytelling
  4. Provide University access for student research
  5. Provide a variety of opportunities for learning and teaching
  6. Create a judgement-free space to share and collaborate
  7. Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and access for all community members
