HAVE YOU HEARD?

The Illini Swing Society and Second Wind Running Club will be hosting events at Allerton Park over the next couple weekends! Check them out:

Harvest Moon Barn Dance
This weekend on October 20th, dance the night away with the Illini Swing Society at 7pm in the Allerton Barn (588 Allerton Road, Monticello IL). Dust off your vintage/western wear, participate in a beginner lesson (7-8pm), and then enjoy the live band T.J. & The Texas Tommies (8-11pm). No experience, partner, or student-status required. $10 in advance, $14 at the door. U of I students attend free. Find more information and purchase your ticket HERE.

31st Annual Allerton Park Trail Run
Looking for more ways to get fit at Allerton? Join the Second Wind Running Club on October 28th at 9am for a 5.7mi Trail Run or 2mi Nature Walk! Race day packet pick-up starts at 7am for both events, followed by a post-race pot-luck brunch. Wear a costume and bring a brunch item to share! For more information about registration, course maps, and race-day volunteer opportunities, click HERE.


GET OUTSIDE!

On a cool, crisp morning, Milford Jr. High stopped by Allerton for a fieldtrip and private Mansion tour! The the day ended with some impromptu playing and rolling down the Meadow’s hills. Autumn flies by in a flash, so make sure to get out and enjoy nature! For more information about booking a private tour, contact us at allertonevents@illinois.edu or call 217-333-3287. Tickets are still available for the Public Mansion Tours on December 15th from 12-4pm.


October 20 | 9 – 10 AM | Visitor Center | FREE

This informational volunteer orientation is open to the public and great for anyone interested in volunteering at Allerton. Get your questions answered, find out about different opportunities, and take the first step to becoming an Allerton volunteer! No registration required. *October 20 | 10 – 11 AM | Visitor Center | $ – Donation

Allerton Park has 14 formal gardens, created by Robert Allerton between 1899 and 1946. Join us to experience the beauty of each garden while listening to the history behind its creation. Tours typically last 45-60 minutes, and all ages are welcome.

*This will be the final Third Saturday Garden Tour of the year!

October 24 | 6:30-7:30 PM | Meadow | $ – Donation

Enjoy the serene setting of yoga at Allerton under the full moon! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to strengthen your mind, body, and spirit after dark in the Allerton Meadow. Instructor Josie Heck from Yoga Off the Square will lead students through an all-levels class.

No mat? No problem! Mats will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.Please print and sign the liability form and bring it with you to class. Class will be held on the Gate House Lawn if it is cloudy. Donations are appreciated and will support Allerton!

October 27 | 10 AM -12 PM | Meet outside the Visitor Center | $5/person

Join Park Attendant and Certified Arborist Peter Lichtenberger for a workshop in Tree Care and Pruning. Learn tips and tricks in planting, mulching, site selection and species selection among other need to know basics for trees around your home. Proper pruning techniques will also be discussed as Peter leads you through Allerton’s gardens.

October 29, 30, 31 | 7 PM | Mansion Library | $20

Listen to haunting stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe while surrounded by the grandeur and mystery of the Allerton Mansion. Afterwards explore the Mansion and learn the history of the house and the man behind it all.

Doors open at 6pm. Please arrive no later than 6:45 to find your seats before the show starts at 7pm! Continue the experience by staying overnight; call (217) 333-3287 for details or to make a reservation.

November 16 | 6 – 8 PM | Allerton Mansion | $75 | Only 22 tickets left!

Warm up with an evening of delicious food, perfectly paired with samples and cocktails from Whiskey Acres Distilling Co.of DeKalb, IL! Learn more about spirits and pairing from co-founder Nick Nagele while enjoying this four-course meal in the Allerton Mansion. Extend your stay by spending the night – enjoy a special discounted rate of $80 for all rooms!
