Rain Garden Workshop – Presentation by Eliana Brown and Layne Knoche

A rain garden is a beautiful landscape feature that captures and absorbs rainfall and snowmelt. These gardens help improve downstream water quality and recharge groundwater, while benefiting pollinators and enhancing the landscape. University of Illinois Extension‘s Eliana Brown and Layne Knoche will talk about rain gardens, why you might want them, and the basics of creating one. They will use the example of the Red Oak Rain Garden on the University of Illinois campus to explain how to approach native plant selection. The Red Oak Rain Garden has been certified through many conservation organizations such as Monarch Watch, the National Audubon Society, and the National Wildlife Federation.
