The Farms: Arboretum “Naked” Tree ID Hike
Experience Level: Beginner
Learn how to use bark patterns and buds to identify “naked” trees (without their leaves!) at an Arboretum “Naked” Tree ID Hike on Thursday, March 26 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Illinois Arboretum (1800 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana)*.
Extension Educator Ryan Pankau will lead students on a short hike around the Arboretum to identify trees native to Illinois and discuss various qualities of these awesome plants. The focus will be on wintertime identification when trees are “naked” – using buds, bark and other attributes.
$10/person**. Register here. Registration will close March 25 at noon or when capacity is reached. All sales are final.
*Limited metered parking spots are available in the lot near the Noel Welcome Garden and along South Lincoln Avenue. Additional metered parking is available in the lot south of the Japan House. (Electronic payment only by MobileMeter.)
**This class will be held rain or shine and moved to an indoor classroom in case of inclement weather. Dress appropriately for the weather and for a hike that will sometimes leave the paved trails.
