McCraw Family Visitor Center Grand Opening

The McCraw Family Visitor Center (MFVC) will officially open to the public on March 20, 2023! This date also happens to be Robert Allerton’s 150th birthday – and the first day of spring! Help us celebrate these momentous occasions with a ribbon cutting at 4pm, followed by cake, punch, and a cash bar. The space will be open until 6pm for ‘open house’ style viewing.

The Slow Spark BBQ food truck will also be at the event from 4 to 7 p.m.

This event is free, but registration is appreciated for planning purposes. Register here.

The renovations to Robert Allerton’s original garden shed (located across from the Greenhouse Café) began over a year ago. Designed and fabricated by Taylor Studios, the museum-quality displays cover the history and highlights of the property. The MFVC will help visitors gain a better understanding of who and what Allerton is, and strives to embody Allerton’s vision of: “inspiring the community to utilize and value nature, history, and the arts, through accessible and sustainable programming, research, and facilities.

Funding for the renovation, along with an endowment to provide salary support for our Visitor Center Coordinator, was donated by Tom and Jessica McCraw and their family members. (Learn more about their gift here.)

If you will need disability-related accommodations in order to participate, please email allertoninfo@illinois.edu.
