Students will practice rotary cutting fabric\, use a sewing machine to piece a simple block\, layer and machine quilt the block\, and bind it to complete their very own “mug rug” (a small decorative mat for your favorite mug)! \n$80/person*. Since leaving academia she has run an Etsy shop selling handmade charm bracelets\, and other gifts. \nJennie is also a moderator and active member of LettuceCraft.com\, a forum where members share their handmade creations. DESCRIPTION:Take part in an immersive outdoor experience with Allerton Artist-in-Residence Michael Workman at Transitive Landscapes: A Guided Walk & Field Atlas Assembly on Sunday\, Nov. 9 from 12 to 1 p.m. Meet at the McCraw Family Visitor Center (park in the Visitor Center Parking Lot on Old Timber Road).\nParticipants will follow a mapped path through the gardens and wooded trails\, and listen to short readings at designated stops that will weave excerpts from Workman’s Transitive Landscapes writings with the natural landscape. At each station\, field cards with poetic fragments will be passed out to encourage responses and capture sensory impressions of sound\, light\, texture and memory.\nThe event will then move to the Greenhouse Auditorium\, where responses will be collected into a communal poetic field atlas — a temporary installation and digital record reflecting the interplay between the event’s experience and those who experienced it. No previous writing or art experience is required.\n$5/person*. Register here. DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Some weaving experience needed\nContinue your journey into the world of weaving at Beginning Weaving II on Saturday and Sunday\, Nov. 1-2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Greenhouse Auditorium.\nThis 2-day class with instructor Sharon Bowles will be a continuation of Beginning Weaving I\, but instead of everyone doing the same article\, students will pick their own project\, measure the warp\, beam the warp\, thread the heddles to their selected pattern\, thread the reed\, tie the warp to the cloth beam rod\, wind bobbins and weave a sample of their selected yarn. Students will then weave samples from the other looms\, giving them a wide variety of weave structures they can try out.\nThis course is a great way to continue your weaving journey!\n$250/person*. She was taught to weave in a one-on-one class and wove two table runners in 12 (approximately) 2-hour lessons\, and she teaches the same method when she teaches. Sharon has experience in weaving with silk\, lace weaving\, 8-shaft pattern weaving\, parallel weaving\, block weaves\, and Shaker reproduction towels.\nSharon has experience in weaving with silk\, lace weaving\, 8-shaft pattern weaving\, parallel weaving\, block weaves\, and Shaker reproduction towels. She has taught many workshops and classes to weavers’ guilds in Florida\, Ohio\, and Champaign-Urbana. Her work is in public art collections around the world including the Smithsonian\, Museum of Arts & Design in New York City\, Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City and the Racine Art Museum\, among others.\nShe is the recipient of a Visual Arts Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and five Artists Fellowship Grants from the Illinois Arts Council.
