SUMMARY:Mystic Monday: Intro to Numerology
DESCRIPTION:Entry Level: Beginner (ages 18+) \nHave you ever wondered why some numbers repeat throughout your life? Now is your chance to find out at Mystic Mondays: Intro to Numerology on Monday\, Nov. 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the Mansion Library. \nIn this lively and informative class\, Llewellyn Worldwide author Charlie Rainbow Wolf will teach you what the different numbers mean when it comes to their significance in your life and the lives of those close to you. You’ll learn about your life path number\, your soul path number\, your heart’s desire number\, and more! \nThe study of numerology is rich and thick and—unlike astrology—it doesn’t matter if you know your exact time of birth or not! It’s the combination of the name you were given at birth\, the name you use now\, and the date of your birth that make you unique individual that you are! Want to take a deeper look? Grab a notebook and pen and join us for this fun class. Let’s unlock the secrets of your numbers! \n$55/person. Register here. Registration closes Nov. 13 or when capacity is reached. All sales are final. \n\nIf you will need disability-related accommodations to participate\, please email owarren@illinois.edu. \nBy attending\, you consent to your image being used in Allerton marketing\, social media and publications. Please alert the photographer or videographer if you do not want your image taken.  \n\nAbout the Instructor\nCharlie is an old hippie who’s been studying the weird ways of the world for nearly 50 years. She’s happiest when she’s got her hands in mud\, either making pottery in the ‘Artbox’ or tending to things in the yarden (yard + garden = yarden). Astrology\, tarot\, and herbs are her greatest interests\, but she’s dabbled in most metaphysical topics in the last five decades\, because life always has something new to offer. She is a contributing author for Llewellyn Worldwide\, a ghostwriter for renowned psychic celebrities\, and makes a wicked batch of fudge. She lives in central Illinois with her very patient husband and her special needs Great Danes.

SUMMARY:Sketch Walk
DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Beginner ages 16+ (parent must be on the property)  \n\n\nJoin our current Hood Artist-in-Residence for a Sketch Walk on Monday\, November 9 from 12-1:30 p.m. or Tuesday\, November 17 from 3-4:30 p.m. meeting at the Studio. \nArtist\, librarian\, and maker Megan Lotts will lead this informal guided drawing experience where students explore a place by observing and sketching what they see in real time. Rather than focusing on “perfect” drawings\, students are invited to create quick\, simple sketches that capture moments\, spaces\, and details of Allerton as they experience them. \nThe process often begins with low-stakes drawing prompts such as two-minute sketches\, drawing familiar objects like a favorite meal\, or six-line visual stories before moving into a walking route where participants sketch along the way. \n$5/person*. Register here. Registration closes 3 days prior to the event or when capacity is reached. All sales are final. \n\nLearn more about the space where your course will take place here. If you will need disability-related accommodations to participate\, please email owarren@illinois.edu. \nBy attending\, you consent to your image being used in Allerton marketing\, social media and publications. SUMMARY:Learn Guitar: Get Started the Right Way
DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Beginner (ages 16+) \nLearn a new instrument at Learn Guitar: Get Started the Right Way on Tuesdays\, Sept. 15 through Nov. 17 from 6-7 p.m. in the Studio. \nLeading this course is musician Rex Parvin\, who has a very specific approach to teaching guitar based on having an understanding of how music works and how that understanding applies specifically to the guitar. It is essentially a 3-step process: \n— Learn the notes on the guitar\n— Learn how those notes go together to form chords.\n— Apply and combine steps 1 and 2 to form chords and play songs\, developing your own style and creative expression. \n$200/person*. Register here. Registration will close Sept. 11 or when capacity is reached. All sales are final. \n*Students should bring their own guitar.    \n\nIf you will need disability-related accommodations to participate\, please email owarren@illinois.edu. \nBy attending\, you consent to your image being used in Allerton marketing\, social media and publications. Please alert the photographer or videographer if you do not want your image taken.  \n\nAbout the Instructor\nRex Parvin knew from early adolescence that his primary passion in life was music\, having taken guitar lessons and learning to read music starting at age five. He learned how to conduct choirs in high school and went to college as a voice major\, getting bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education\, specializing in voice and conducting. \nRex’s musical abilities and passions led to a 30-year career as a full-time music director\, studio musician\, conductor\, and guitar teacher. He is a “people person” who loves to interact with others and see them grow in their abilities and understanding of music\, encouraging them to new levels of excellence. Those who have learned from him have always commented that they learned many new things in ways that were easily understandable and created a hunger to learn even more.
