SUMMARY:Plein Air Painting
DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Intermediate (ages 15+) \nTake your creativity outside at Plein Air Painting on Friday through Sunday\, Sept. 4-6 from 12-4 p.m. outside and in the Studio. \nPlein air painting can feel overwhelming at first — easels\, changing light\, color mixing\, wind\, and trying to paint outdoors all at once! This workshop is designed especially for intermediate painters who want a supportive introduction to painting outside. If you have had some drawing and painting instruction\, and are ready to continue increasing your skills and understanding\, this workshop will be a great fit for you. \nWe’ll concentrate on the core skills that make plein air painting easier and more enjoyable. Students will learn how to set up their materials efficiently\, simplify what they see\, mix clean natural color\, and recognize strong value relationships in the landscape. \nWe’ll work through short studies and practical exercises to build your confidence in handling paint and observing. You’ll also watch demos to help you understand the approach and decision-making process for creating a successful piece. This workshop is ideal for artists who are new to plein air painting or who want to strengthen their foundational painting skills in a relaxed environment. You’ll come away with all the tools you need to continue to explore the countryside\, brush in hand! \nAll mediums are welcome. \n$170/person*. Register here. For several years\, they worked with Allerton Park to create an IPHS Hosta Display Garden there; some of that garden is still in existence today and is now a project of Master Gardeners. In 2010\, as part of our mission to promote the genus Hosta through a variety of educational means\, and at the invitation of the then Director of the Arboretum\, Bill Kruideneier\, we voted to establish a display garden at the Arboretum. From the fall of 2010\, until the spring of 2014\, volunteer members of IPHS donated money for hardscape and the purchase of shad companion plants\, designed and created a wishlist for plants to be installed in the garden\, donated their own mostly originator stock (OS – meaning purchased from the original hybridizer of the plant\, or grown from the original plant)\, and installed\, labeled\, and maintained the original area of the Garden. In The Hosta Garden at the University of Illinois Arboretum was awarded the American Hosta Society’s (AHS) designation as a National Display Garden.
