SOLD OUT – Young Writers Workshop

No school on Monday, Feb. 20? Bring your student to the Allerton Mansion for a creative writing program rooted in Allerton history! This day-long program is for 3rd through 6th-grade students who enjoy learning about history and writing their own stories.

During this program, your young writer will take a tour of the Allerton mansion (including all the secret places you don’t see on a regular tour), go on a nature hike, explore the history of the Allerton family, the estate, and the land before Robert lived here, and write their own creative story incorporating the history they learned.

Young Writers will learn the foundations of writing a creative story by looking at old photos and articles to create their own piece of historical fiction. Does your writer like fantasy and sci-fi or a good mystery story? Perfect! No genre is off-limits as long as there is a little history in there!

Cost is $15/each and space is limited. All your writer needs to bring is a sack lunch, a refillable water bottle, and a favorite writing notebook if they wish. A composition notebook and afternoon snack will be provided. Please note that part of the day will be spent outside, so please plan accordingly.

Register here.

Any questions regarding the Young Writers program or any accessibility accommodation requests should be directed to Olivia Bunting at owarren@illinois.edu.
