February Owl Prowl

A $5 fee per person will be collected at the trail head before the hike.

Join members from Champaign County Audubon Society and staff from Allerton Park on a night hike and owl search! More owl species can be found in Central Illinois during the winter months and for some owl species winter marks the beginning of the breeding season. On this hike we will have a very good chance of hearing and seeing great-horned owls and barred owls, but we will also be searching for visitors such as long-eared owls and northern saw whet owls. Proceeds from this hike will be used to purchase birding books for Allerton Public Library and Champaign Public Library. Registration is required and space will be limited to 30 participants. There are no restroom facilities at this location, please dress for appropriate weather.

Note: This parking area is on the south side of Allerton Park. For GPS directions please use 588 Allerton Road, Monticello, IL 61856 and then continue southwest 1.1miles to the Lost Garden/McDonald Family Trailhead Parking Lot on the right side of the road. If you reach E 1300 North Rd you have gone too far.
