(SOLD OUT) The Farms: Allerton-in-Residence: Natural Dye Workshop

Join current Allerton Artist-in-Residence Megan Koeppel for a Natural Dye Workshop on Sunday, June 2 (1-4 p.m.) or Monday, June 3 (6-9 p.m.) in the Mansion Carriage House.

Participants will receive an introduction to natural dyes and immersion dye fabric techniques. Students will leave with the knowledge of three natural dyes: indigo, cochineal and Osage, as well as the broad spectrum you can get from these three dyes.

This workshop will also cover mordants, how to create an indigo vat, extracting pigment from natural materials and dyeing with protein and cellulose fibers.

$10/person. Register here by May 31. Space is limited.

About the artist

Megan Koeppel is a North Carolina-based artist who concentrates on natural dye-making processes, sometimes incorporating them into another one of her passions: quilting.

Koeppel said she was first exposed to the world of creative art in high school and was immediately hooked.

After obtaining her degree from the Maryland Institute of Art, she has since worked full-time for non-profits and art agencies in areas of public programming and art installation. She is currently the administrative coordinator at Blue Light Junction in Baltimore and operates a website with some of her current work, meganclairekoeppel.com.

Her art has also been exhibited an galleries from Baltimore and Milwaukee to overseas at the Civitella Ranieri in Umbertide, Italy.

The Farms: An Allerton Folk School, offers classes, workshops, and gatherings focusing on art, health & wellness, history, nature & outdoor education, or science. All experiences value hands-on, experiential teaching and learning, and are facilitated by and for the members of the community.
