DESCRIPTION:Get ready for an unforgettable adventure at our 10th Annual Family Campout on Saturday\, Sept. 19-Sunday\, Sept. 20. This hassle-free camping experience includes the rare chance to camp overnight at Allerton! In addition to campfire s’mores and stories\, we have a wide variety of optional activities to learn from experts and explore the great outdoors with your family: \n\nExplore the river and mussels (Illinois Natural History Survey)\nLaugh and learn at a live wildlife show (Bob Tarter – Natural History Educational Company)\nThrow an atlatl spear (Illinois State Archeological Survey)\nSee birds up-close at mist-netting (Illinois Natural History Survey)\nGaze at our galaxy (University of Illinois Astronomy Department)\nGive us your best HOOT at the Owl Calling Contest\nLearn about conservation and the Sangamon’s famous mudpuppy salamander (Land Conservation Foundation)\nTalk to the owls on a Night Hike (Allerton Park Bird Club)\n\nFood will be available for purchase throughout the weekend from area food trucks and the Greenhouse Café. Campers can also bring and cook their own meals\, as long as their flame is enclosed. \n$15/person* ($10/child ages 8 & under). Register here by Sept. 17. DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: All skill levels (ages 13+) \nLearn how to ease your foot\, back\, or hip pain\, and hike without pain at MELT with Mary on Sundays\, Sept. 20\, Oct. 18\, Nov. 15\, or Dec. 20 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Mansion Library. \nInstructor Mary French will lead this introductory workshop to the MELT (Myofascial Energetic Length Technique) method\, a self-treatment system that uses soft rollers and balls to improve the body’s connective tissue\, nervous and lymphatic systems. \nStudents will use MELT soft balls and soft rollers as they learn simple techniques that can be done at home to remain active and healthy\, and help provide relief from low back pain\, arthritis\, bunions and plantar fasciitis \n$30/person*. Register here. Registration closes 1 day prior to class or when capacity is reached. She now shares her passion for the self-care method at various health events\, including at Allerton. \n“If hikers MELT their feet before hitting the trails\, they will reduce their risk of injury and aches. Then MELTing afterwards will reduce the soreness from hiking.”
