She started pour painting in 2020 while completing her B.A. in art history from UIUC.\nIn 2021 she expanded to developing partnership with Loft Hair Salon in Bement to have an art gallery space in the salon to showcase her work in a local setting. In 2022\, while completing her M.S. in arts administration from Drexel University\, she began working in local vendor events. DESCRIPTION:Artist-in-Resident Joha Harrison will facilitate an evening of creating community-based art at A Community Collage: An Artist-in-Residence Outreach Event on Monday\, Aug. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mansion Library.\nIn an open-house style setting\, Harrison\, a California-based photographer and painter\, will help participants create an abstract collage that will be turned into one large piece of art.\nIn order to create a personal connection\, those taking part are encouraged to bring items from home to be used in their collage\, such as old paper (letters\, sheet music\, wrapping paper\, etc.)\, leather\, buttons\, beads\, dried flowers\, fabric scraps\, or anything that can stick to cardstock with Mod Podge and glue. He has two sons that enjoy the arts just as much as does. Harrison started in the arts in elementary school eventually submitted shoe designs to Nike while in the fifth grade.\nArt didn’t play a role in his life again until the 11th grade when he started with photography. He took photos of everything he wanted to remember; from there\, love for the art blossomed. He says that being a photographer for 20 years allows for a bit of confidence in the craft\, but documenting history is a lifelong journey.\nFilmmaking is the newest of Joha’s current endeavors\, enabling him to take a still photo and allow it to breathe. His painting life or painting persona delves into a bit of the unknown. When painting\, he translates thoughts\, feelings\, emotions\, memories and realms into painted expressions.\nThe process of painting is a journey from the first message down to the signature. DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Beginner \nLearn the skills of improvisation\, including scene creation and team dynamics at Improve Your Improv on Thursdays\, Aug. 21 through Oct. 2 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Music Barn. \nInstructor Kyle Tasch returns to The Farms to teach this popular course\, which will be jam-packed with improvisational fun that uses both short-form games and long-form scenes. \nThis will not be a class to sit down\, hear lectures\, and take notes.  Students will be performing as much as possible to emphasize the mechanics needed to act out an entertaining and meaningful scene on the spot with no lines. SUMMARY:The Farms: Beehive Observation
DESCRIPTION:Experience Level: Beginner (all ages)Get a first-hand look at how honey bees manage hive activity at Beehive Observation on April 19* and 27\, May 11 and 25\, June 8 and 22\, July 6 and 20 and Aug. 3\, 17 and 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. in The Studio and outside at the beehives. (Each class will cover the same material). \nInstructor Maggie Wachter will provide an overview of seasonal influences\, followed by a peek inside the hives to observe honeybees at work. Traditional and Flow Hives will also be discussed. \n$100/person for the series or $20/person/class. Register here three days prior to each class. Please alert the photographer or videographer if you do not want your image taken. \nAbout the instructor \nWhen Maggie Wachter began her social work degree at the University of Illinois in 2008\, she had no idea that she would become a beekeeper. As for honey\, she kept a single jar in the back of her kitchen cabinet for recipes. Today she is a master beekeeper who never eats sugar. \nMaggie received her first hive as a gift in 2008. By 2010\, she was enrolled in the Master Beekeeper course at the University of Florida. From there\, things happened quickly to turn her life around. In 2012\, she started teaching beekeeping for Parkland Community Education and today she is a beekeeping teacher\, honey judge\, mead maker and master beekeeper. \nShe has also participated in honeybee research at the University of Illinois and the USDA. \nAbout The Farms \nThe Farms: An Allerton Folk School\, offers classes\, workshops\, and gatherings focusing on art\, outdoor education\, science\, storytelling\, and wellness.
