Book Chat with Maureen Holtz: “Images of America: Robert Allerton, His Parks and Legacies”
Join us virtually on Thursday, February 25 at 4pm as author Maureen Holtz shares an online presentation of her latest book, “Images of America: Robert Allerton, His Parks and Legacies.” Many Central Illinois communities around Monticello, Champaign, and Decatur know the name of Robert Allerton only as the former owner of Allerton Park and Retreat Center. Some people may also know of his Kauai, Hawaii paradise called Lawai-Kai, today part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. But few people today are aware of his history. Holtz’s presentation includes a large collection of archival photograph of Robert Allerton and his Illinois and Kauai estates.
Holtz co-authored an earlier biography, now out-of-print, and wrote a photography book about Allerton and his properties. Her 2013 book by Arcadia Publishing focused on Monticello, IL. Her novel, The Last Resort, can be purchased from Amazon, Hartfield Bookstore and the author.
