Three concerts for the price of one – each with their own unique country/blue-grass feel, and a stompin’ country beat! Opening with the youthful Bow-Dacious String Band, centering on Sam Payne and his intellectual beat, and ending with The Curses gritty melodies.
Bow-Dacious String Band 6pm-7pm
The Bow-Dacious String Band consists of about 50 kids, aged 6 through high school, who get together weekly to play popular music styles on violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo and other stringed instruments. This band performs a lot–over 200 times in the past 10 years! The repertoire is drawn from traditional and popular music genres from around the world. Our emphasis is on improvisation, developing strong ensemble skills, and learning applied music theory as it relates to the tunes we play.
Sam Payne and Friends 7pm-8pm
Sam Payne is a distinguished teacher, folk musician, and host of the popular Urbana Hootenanny. Often collaborating with some of the finest acoustic musicians in Urbana – Champaign, he delivers a unique celebration of traditional song that’s sure to please the ears.
The Curses 8pm-9pm
The Curses is an original Illinois based 4-piece gritty old-school Rock & Roll band tinged with Americana, Swing and Honky Tonk. The Curses feature vocals reminiscent of Tom Waits and Ray Charles. They offer over 2 hours of all original material. The Curses also play covers by artists such as The Kinks, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, The Handsome Family, The Misfits, and others.
