BEAR and The Unreliable Bestiary
March 8 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
“Unlikely stories from our precarious moment in natural history.”
This one-man show is part storytelling, part cinematic documentation, part TEDtalk. BEAR is the fourth performance in Deke Weaver’s life-long project, The Unreliable Bestiary. His audaciously ambitious goal of creating 26 full-length pieces – one for every letter of the alphabet, each letter represented by an endangered animal or habitat – represents a tiny sliver of our current catastrophic loss of biodiversity.
Staged “in the wild,” in sites that reflect the human-animal-habitat story — prairies, forests, livestock pavilions, buses, and barns — BEAR includes storytelling, interwoven videos of animals and habitats, researched data, music, dance, and visual arts installations.
Distilled, touring versions of these performance epics have been presented at the Sundance Film Festival, the Houston Cinema Arts Festival, the Cinema Pacific Film Festival, the Chicago Humanities Festival, and in classrooms, living rooms, wildlife refuges, theaters and galleries across the country.
The performance is 75 minutes with cash bar, followed by an informal post-show discussion.
$10/person in advance, $15/person at the door
